At Kingsport Hematology Oncology we provide on-site laboratory services to our patients. Laboratory services play a key role in diagnosis, staging, and treatment of cancer. For that reason, having this lab in house saves time and allows us to provide test results to patients more quickly.

Each of our Medical Technologists has over 15 years of experience in Hematology Oncology. Our phlebotomists are well experience with excellent clinical skills.

With cancer, early detection and treatment can make a big difference. By performing on-site chemistries, we are able to work more efficiently in creating and implementing a treatment plan.

Difference types of lab work can take longer to process. Below are general guidelines on the expected turnaround time of lab services in our office:

CBC (white blood count, red blood count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelet count)- 20 minutes

Chemistries (Sodium, Postassium, Kidney functions (BUN, Creatinine), liver functions (SGOT, SGPT)- 30 minutes if chemotherapy is to given the same day or normally 24 hours

Tumor Markers (CA-125, CA-19-9, PSA, CEA, etc)-72 hours

Specialty Labs: 1 week

Most laboratory and X-ray results are discussed at the next physician appointment to allow further explanation and treatment planning if needed.
